THE SUMMONS:

BEFORE THE SUMMONS (1)

Before the summons, that is to say, my grandfathers recall to war, life was normal and had reassumed a sort of dream like quality as he recovered from his injuries

The Summons Arrives (2)

He is called back to war, to the front line: the summons arrives. His mind turns to turmoil

The Battlefield (3)

He finds himself in the midst of battle, colours change, emotions cave in, everything darkens. He is injured, again

When swallows fly away (4)

He has been injured in the battle. There is acrid smoke everywhere. The landscape has changed. Even the swallows have flown away from the carnage.

I dare to dream (5)

The war is over. The injuries have healed. My grandfather can no longer think of the times of way. The memories are tucked away, in a bubble that no-one can enter.
