This work holds the feeling of loss that comes from a relationship that never had the chance to exist. As a child, I visited my grandfather’s house and was mesmerised by the roses, while he moved around me, busy and absorbed in his work. He was present but unreachable, part of the background of those early years. The emotion here is not longing, but the quiet weight of something missed, a closeness that should have formed but never did
