Life Among the Roses looks beyond the rose as a decorative flower and considers the garden as a living habitat. Roses of different colours and stages of growth are brought together within a circular structure of tangled stems. Moving through its centre are two snails, inhabitants often treated as unwanted intruders but which belong to the garden as fully as the flowers surrounding them.

Their slow journey introduces a different sense of time. Roses open, fade and return with the seasons, while the snails move steadily through the dense growth, finding food and shelter among the stems. The work brings beauty and ordinary survival into the same space, suggesting that a garden is not simply arranged for us to admire. It is a shared world, filled with lives continuing largely unnoticed among the roses.
