Running for Cover looks upwards from beneath the plants as the first heavy drops of rain begin to fall. Autumn leaves form a canopy of red and orange, while branches, flowers and seed heads create a tangled route towards shelter. At the centre, a ladybird races through the growth before the rain breaks fully.

Seen from the insect’s viewpoint, an ordinary change in the weather becomes a major event. Raindrops appear heavy, distances expand and the garden is transformed into difficult terrain. The work considers the small, largely unseen struggles taking place around us as insects and plants respond to the changing season. For the ladybird, this is not simply an autumn shower—it is a run for cover.
